Email users ''spam savvy''
A new survey has found the majority of internet users are aware of the security threats posed by spam mail and take action to report fraudulent contacts.
The Email Sender and Provider Coalition (ESPC), an industry body, randomly surveyed over 2,200 internet users and found more than four in five commonly used the ´unsubscribe´ and ´report spam´ functions.
Furthermore, more than four in five of the respondents thought their internet service provider should make available such functions as an integral part of email programmes, to further protect against spam.
"Today´s consumers are educated about email and, according to the results, very willing to use the functionality available to them to manage their email, and to provide specific feedback about their wants and needs for doing so," said a statement from ESPC.
"It is important that the industry as a whole listen to their needs to maintain their trust and ensure that email remains a viable channel for communication and commerce," the group added.
