Facebook announced marketing innovation
Social networking site Facebook is set to use its put its networking abilities to the test by launching a new marketing facility.
Social Ads will use the very structures of networking to spread brand messages throughout the site´s membership using friend´s lists and personal online chats.
Acting very much the way a virus does, advertising messages will be posted in conversations between friends and passed on indefinitely.
Founder Mark Zuckerberg told advertising and media representatives that Facebook´s innovative technology meant the birth of a new era for their industry.
On his blog he has also tried to allay members´ fears that the new development will be instrusive.
People would not notice more advertising on the site than they did already, he said; the site would continue to be clutter-free and no personal information would be sold on.
"Facebook Ads represent a completely new way of advertising online," Mr Zuckerberg told the New York delegates.
He said that previously the media has been "pushed out to people" but marketers would now "become part of the conversation".
