Facebook''s popularity ''is on the decline''

While Facebook was previously a common talking point amongst many consumers, people continue to use it but the "novelty has worn off" somewhat.

That is according to Rachel Hawkes, co-founder and editor at Social Media Portal, who asserted that internet users no longer feel the need to discuss the social networking site as much as before.

Ms Hawkes commented: "At one point not so long ago, you couldn´t sit on the Tube without hearing other people in the carriage talking about something relating to Facebook.

"It was starting to get a bit much, so thankfully, the ´novelty´ has worn off slightly and people are just getting on with Facebook without having to talk about it every five minutes."

She went on to agree with reports that there has been a decline in Facebook´s user base, adding that "that is certainly a fair estimation".
