IAB: Internet advertising revenue shows growth

Internet advertising revenues for the third quarter of this year grew significantly, achieving a rate of growth that was three per cent higher than during the second quarter.

Figures from the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) revealed that revenues in the US rose to $5.2 billion (£2.5 billion) during the three months, $1.1 billion (£531 million) or 25.3 per cent higher than the previous quarter.

"Internet advertising revenues are on an annual run-rate exceeding $20 billion, further demonstrating the industry has truly come into its own," said Peter Petrusky from PwC.

"The emergence of new platforms, including broadband video, rich internet applications, mobile, and social media promise to deliver new benefits for consumers, and create exciting new venues for marketers to realise value in digital media."

The survey also showed that all three quarters of 2007 have achieved ´historic´ highs in terms of advertising revenue.

A recent report from eMarkerter forecast that online advertising expenditure would reach $42 billion (£20 billion) by 2020.
