Mobile broadband use rises sharply in the US
Last year saw a huge increase in the number of US consumers using mobile broadband to access the internet.
That is according to new data released by internet marketing research company comScore, which indicated that over the course of 2007, there was a 154 per cent increase in the number of computers accessing the internet via mobile broadband technology.
Work computers were found to be the most frequently used in the regard, accounting for 59 per cent of all computers accessing the web via mobile broadband.
In terms of personal computers, the use of mobile broadband was more likely in higher income households.
Serge Matta, senior vice president of comScore, commented: "Though mobile broadband access is currently used by about one per cent of the total US internet population it is poised for significant growth over the next few years.
"As consumers increasingly demand and depend on portable internet access, the demand for mobile broadband should continue to increase."
