Mobile consumers changing way they view role of operators
Consumers are changing their perception of their mobile operators, it has been revealed.
According to a new survey produced by 3-ple Media, mobile operators are seen as data connectivity providers by 66 per cent of mobile subscribers.
In addition, one in five of participants indicated that they viewed their mobile operator as an aggregator and provider of multimedia content and services, similar to a cable or satellite television provider.
The study also revealed that over half of mobile consumers say that they are looking forward to receiving mobile multimedia.
John Deakins, chief commercial officer for 3ple-Media, commented: "There´s a debate within many operators: do they simply become a mobile IP connectivity provider, or also seek to ensure ARPU growth by becoming their subscriber´s mobile multimedia service provider?
"This service strongly suggests that despite the technological, educational and commercial hurdles still to be conquered; mobile operators are the clear front runners in the race to be at the heart of the new mobile multimedia ecosystem."
