More consumers engaging in ''high-end web behaviour''
Consumers are increasingly "expecting more" of their internet service providers (ISPs), due to a growth in "high-intensity web surfing activities".
That is according to Michael Phillips, product director with Broadband Choices, part of online self-help service ConsumerChoices.co.uk Group, who maintained that services such as the BBC iPlayer had taken "high-end web behaviour to the masses".
He said that internet usage was growing and that ISPs had not expected consumers to start doing such "high-intensity web surfing activities".
Mr Phillips commented: "Services like the BBC iPlayer, 4OD and Sky Anytime have taken high-end web behaviour to the masses.
"Previously most people were just doing a little bit of surfing in the evening, whereas downloading and peer-to-peer appeared to be minority activities, now the BBC have made it to a mass market.
"I think that´s why consumers are expecting more of their ISPs and potentially ISPs weren´t expecting customers to start doing these high-intensity web surfing activities."
