MySpace launches new online safety initiatives

MySpace announced yesterday (Thursday, March 6th) the launch of new initiatives to promote online safety awareness.

Among these steps, the website has produced a public service announcement entitled Don´t Stop the Dialogue, which comprises short video clips of ten, 15 and 30 seconds.

The ad, which is set to air across Fox broadcast and cable networks over the next two months, is aimed to encourage parents to talk to their teenage children about their use of the internet.

It is hoped that this will help young people to remain safe when surfing the net.

Hemanshu Nigam, chief security officer for the social networking site, commented: "MySpace is stepping-up our safety education efforts.

"We believe that parents are the first line of defence when it comes to protecting teens in the offline and online worlds, and they should have as many educational resources as possible to safeguard their families."
