Web firms ''more confident'' about future

Companies that have embraced the internet and their online presence tend to be more confident about their future prospects than those that haven´t.

That´s according to research carried out by marketing network thebestof, which revealed that web-savvy businesses anticipate 41 per cent growth in the coming year.

This compares to the just 20 per cent expansion expected by companies not utilising the web in the same way.

"What this research shows is that there´s a whole generation of ordinary small businesses - like office suppliers - who have been quietly working in the background, using the web to steal market share from their bigger competitors," said Nigel Botterill from thebestof.

Of those firms considered ´web-aware´, the study found that 75 per cent had a website, 46 per cent are involved in search engine optimisation and 30 per cent conduct email marketing campaigns, Onrec reports.

A recent report from eMarketer found that business-to-consumer ecommerce is likley to see considerable growth in the next few years, rising from €106 billion to €323 billion in sales by 2011.
