Website name should reflect what is being promoted
When setting up a website, small businesses should think carefully about what domain name they choose.
That is according to John De Groot, managing director of Startup Co, who maintained that the domain name of a business´ website should reflect what is being promoted.
For example, if it is the name of the business that is being promoted, then the domain name should be the same as that of the business.
Mr De Groot went on to say that keyword searches conducted by consumers were a good way to determine a website´s name, adding that the name should be kept "as short as possible".
He commented: "The use of keyword searches to discover what words people are searching on with search engines - Google et cetera - can provide guides to what the best domain name should be if it is not the business name.
"Use a .com first and then .co.uk. Use names that are not hyphenated and then hyphenated names if not available. Keep the domain name as short as possible."
