Women have ''big range of opportunities'' in IT

Women who want to pursue a career in information technology have many options available to them in today´s ever-expanding industry.

That is according to online job board Womenintechnology.co.uk, which has said that there are various benefits of working in the IT industry and more people should be encouraged to find employment which involves computers and the internet.

Maggie Berry, director of the site, said that the current skills shortage should also make more people want to find a career in IT.

Ms Berry explained: "Technology is an innovative and ever-evolving industry which is exciting to be a part of and allows you to work with cutting edge technology that has a direct impact on the success of a business.

"There are so many different ways you can get involved with the industry and due to widespread skill shortages there are a big range of opportunities available."

According to British Computer Society figures published in 2004, 14 per cent of its members were women.
