Telegraph rapped over blood pressure claim

2008/08/06
The Telegraph has come under fire from the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) after "discouraging people from seeking essential medical treatment".
A front page promotion with Works with Water, which offered readers of the newspaper a chance to "lower your blood pressure with our free spring water" was deemed misleading by the ASA.

The ASA said that the joint promotion made medical claims for an unauthorised medical product and the advertisement could prevent people seeking treatment for high blood pressure.

A ruling by the ASA said: "We considered that readers could infer that the product would treat high blood pressure."

"The ad must not appear again in its current form," added an ASA spokesperson.

According to Works with Water, its naturally flavoured spring water contains ingredients proven to improve heart and skin health.

The water contains dairy peptides and according to the Birmingham Mail it is "very unpleasant to drink".
