Video 'can play a key role in search marketing'

Viral videos can play an important part in a search marketing campaign, it has been suggested.
Many companies and bands are making use of viral videos, with one group putting their success down to their YouTube video.

Writing in the New York Times, Damian Kulsah Jr, the frontman of OK Go, explained that the band´s viral video – Here It Goes Again – was a key driver for its success.

"To the band, Here It Goes Again was a successful creative project. To the record company, it was a successful, completely free advertisement," he said.

As of February 25th 2010, OK Go´s YouTube video for Here It Goes Again had a total of 49,812,609 views, 203,136 ratings and a total of 76,263 comments.

Earlier this month, in a column for Official Wire, industry commentator Leon Hill said companies which are looking to increase sales or brand awareness should use YouTube as part of their search marketing campaign.
