Mobile marketing to become more popular, says Google
2010/03/17
Mobile marketing will become more popular than traditional online advertising over the next few years, Google has suggested.
According to Vic Gundotra of Google, as smartphone usage continues to increase, firms will pay more for mobile search ads compared to standard PC ones.
Speaking during a webcast to analysts earlier this week, he added that the cost of mobile marketing has already increased "dramatically" over the last few years.
However, IDC analyst Karsten Weide recently told the Los Angeles Times that Google may not be the biggest player in the mobile market.
"Mobile is so new and so volatile. That does not mean that Google is going to be the ruler of the mobile universe," he remarked.
Earlier this month, Philip Bates, a senior manager with market intelligence company Analysys Mason, said "the growing importance of the mobile internet is indisputable".
He added that the Apple iPhone has "captured consumers´ attention" and has made mobile internet relevant to a wide range of people.
