Expert offers tips on gaining referrals in email marketing

Email marketers should focus on boosting their sales by promoting referrals among clients, according to an expert.
Neil Berman, president of Delivra and blogger for Media Post, said third-party referrals were more likely to encourage brand loyalty among individuals and businesses.

He suggested that when a company comes to look at their sales lead generation strategies, they may find that the leads come from a wide variety of sources such as former customers, friends, family members, business partners and vendors.

Providing links so that recipients can share emails is one way for marketers to boost referrals, while Mr Berman also advised including a refer link that leads to an easy to fill-out form.

"Remember to ask for a referral so it doesn´t actually sound like you´re asking," added Mr Berman. "Instead of saying ´Refer a Friend´, ask ´Know someone who will benefit?´"

Research from B2 Group shows that small and medium size enterprises are increasing their investment in email marketing as they look to increase their revenues.
