Staff need Twitter training
2010/07/20
Businesses using Twitter should provide training to their staff in order to make the most of the platform, an expert has said.
Rik Ferguson, solutions architect at Trend Micro, noted that many firms were failing to give their workers the necessary skills to embrace the microblogging site.
"You need to offer education and training to your employees because they are going to use social media outside the workplace as well as within it," he commented.
Recent research from Tamar revealed almost half of young internet users use real-time search integrated results from Twitter and Facebook since they were made available at the end of 2009.
Mr Ferguson warned that businesses "are lagging behind" by not providing their employees access to additional training as social media becomes an increasingly prominent business and marketing tool.
"That kind of training is not the kind where you should call all your employees into a room once a year and give them a one-hour session. It should be regular, small message based training, maybe a ´tip of the day´ email in the inbox - daily, small message stuff to keep it fresh in people´s minds," he added.
