Healthy Body...Healthy Mind?

Written by Jamie | 29-May-2012 14:23:07

Mens sana in corpore sano is a famous Latin quotation, often translated as, "A sound mind in a sound body." ...well the gentlemen(*) of Equi=Media have been putting this to the test recently with weekly games of Futsal.  I have used a very good source to give an explanation of what exactly this is (Wikipedia):

Futsal is a variant of association football that is played on a smaller pitch and mainly played indoors. Its name is a portmanteau of the Portuguese futebol de salão and the Spanish fútbol de salón (colloquially fútbol sala), which can be translated as "hall football" or "indoor football". During the sport's second world championships held in Madrid in 1985, the name fútbol Sala was used. Since then, all other names have been officially and internationally changed to futsal.Futsal is played between two teams each with five players, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines; walls or boards are not used. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular football.  The surface, ball and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.

Each week between 8 – 12 people play in teams that change every week (to keep things fair) covering most specialist teams within Equi=Media: Account Management, Digital Development, Finance, Media & Search, with varying abilities & fitness levels making every game an interesting and entertaining one.

To say the Equi=Media team are ready to enter the Futsal Cup & generating huge attendances would be getting a little carried away as although the games are pretty close each week (26-20 was the final score from Mondays game) the standard of football will do little to excite Swindon Town FC manager Paulo Di Canio in terms of scouting for new players!

However this is a great way of keeping fit whilst having fun...and is great for morale!

(*) Although this is currently being played just by the gentlemen of Equi=Media this is due to the lack of interest from the female team members and not by any exclusion rules!
