Google Algorithm Update: Mobile friendly sites to rank higher as of April 21st 2015

Google Algorithm Update: Mobile friendly sites to rank higher as of April 21st 2015 ...

Google has announced two big changes to its search algorithm that will have a “significant impact” on mobile search results worldwide and, as a result, users will find higher quality search results.

As of April 21st 2015, Google will be expanding the use of mobile friendliness as a ranking signal. This means not only will they assess and label your site as mobile friendly, but use this label to determine if your site should rank higher in search results. Accompanying this, Google also stated that they will rank content from indexed apps higher for users who are signed in and have the app installed.

The updates, in particular the expansion of mobile friendliness as a ranking factor, will have a significant impact on mobile search results and therefore ensuring your site is mobile friendly is more important than ever.

Google has been focusing on providing users who are searching on a mobile device for some time now and we predicted that mobile SEO would be big in 2015. Back in November 2014, after extensive testing, Google began rolling out a mobile friendly search label in the search snippet for sites that were mobile friendly, as like the example below.

If you do not have the mobile friendly label next to your search result or you have received a message via webmaster tools indicating mobile usability issues found on your site, such as the message in the image below, there is still some time to get your site mobile friendly.
