equimedia continues to build their relationship across the pond with the Melanoma Foundation of New England (MFNE) by officially sponsoring their Boston Marathon challenge.
Working with clients both in the UK and internationally means we have the opportunity to meet and get to know some truly inspirational people.
The team at equimedia first met Paul Gourley when he worked for a large multi-national corporation. From a symbiotic relationship we helped Paul’s business grow their digital marketing sales channel. When we found out about his involvement as a Board Member with MFNE, we were honoured to cement our international relationship further by becoming their official sponsor for the Boston Marathon. We are honoured to do this again this year.
As a business we are extensively involved with charities – both in terms of providing digital marketing services and supporting charity events. Last year many of our staff were involved in numerous events around the UK including running marathons, half marathons, wearing slippers in the office and giving up lunchtimes for a Crafternoon event.
This year, in the UK, we are proud to support local charity the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. During the course of the year we will post updates about our activities to help raise funds to support the great work they do.
In the meantime, we are supporting Paul with his fundraising and awareness raising work for the MFNE.
The MFNE is a charitable organization provides a variety of educational programs targeting the prevention and early detection of skin cancer and melanoma for both children and adults. MFNE also assists patients and their caregivers struggling with melanoma by offering support groups, educational programs, and Billy’s Buddies, a one-on-one patient advocacy and support program.
In the past two years the MFNE team of 30 runners has raised almost £600,000 to support all of the programs MFNE provides and continue to be on the leaderboard of the thirty official charitable organisations for the Boston Marathon and the Boston Athletic Association.
equimedia and MFNE
The relationship we have with MFNE could expand even further in the coming years to raise awareness in the UK.
The BBC reports that currently more than 13,000 people develop malignant melanoma each year in the UK (compared with around 1,800 in the mid-1970’s). They cite the rising popularity of package holidays to Europe and sunbed usage as the key drivers of this extraordinary growth. Malignant melanoma is now the fifth most common cancer, with more than 2,000 dying from it each year.
There is the potential to leverage several of their programs in the UK including a new program called Practice Safe Skin to provide sunscreen dispensers in local communities. This video describes the solution and shows
a great way to “do something good” about this really bad disease.
If you’re supporting charities this year by putting on your running shoes, good luck; you should be very proud of your involvement to help charities make that all important difference to people around the world.
