Cheltenham Circular – 10th April 2011
The three musketeers Jonathon, Huxley and Tom set out on the most gruelling of training treks to date. Nearly 10 hours, 26.2 miles and plenty of blisters later the 52 mile challenge in 5 weeks was firmly put into context. What started out as a pleasant stroll through the rolling hills surrounding Cheltenham swiftly became a true test of determination and grit. Huxley soldiered on over 6 ½ miles with terrible blistering on both feet and Jonathon carried the hobbling team over the line. Foot management will be key come the 14th May.
We had a particularly hairy moment when confronted by a herd of cattle. Having stood our ground the ever onward marching inquisitive herd eventually left us no alternative option but to sprint for the corner of the field to the salvation of a kissing gate. At least we made some new friends on the route!
There are plans to complete another 20 mile route this coming weekend from Coate Water down to Barbury Castle, around Silbury Hill and back. The 26 milers are already well ahead of the training schedule with the past weeks trekking and this will consolidate their efforts further.
