An AI wrote our blog post and no one noticed, is AI the future of content creation?

Are machines going to take over the world? Well… we hope not, but we have a confession to make. Rob's blog, completely generated by ChatGPT, was not our first AI generated blog. We wanted to test letting an AI create a blog post, not telling anyone, to see if we were found out. Spoilers…we weren’t.

What did we do?

A few weeks ago, we had ChatGPT, an AI bot, write us a blog post; ‘How to be Successful on TikTok: Tips and Tricks for Building a Strong Profile’. The purpose was to see how well ChatGPT could mimic human writing and whether it could create us content worth sharing on our site. We were hoping someone would mention this blog felt wooden or didn’t read in our normal style, but so far, we’ve not been found out but we think they were just being polite!

The ease with which Chat GPT works is impressive; once you can get onto the site it’s just a few clicks away from providing you with exactly what you asked for. But that’s probably where the service ends; it only provides you with exactly what you asked for. There’s no human element to this, it’s very factual and to the point, with no little human touches we throw into our writing when we, the human, sit down to type.

We went as far as asking ChatGPT for image ideas for this post and for meta data; it provided a picture recommendation which was a bit bland too, but it wouldn’t provide us with a meta description.

We liked how fast and easy this was, and it’s also a great way to generate ideas for blog posts, but the copy it gave us didn’t feel anything special and was more generic than anything. It was correct though and did offer valuable advice, but what’s stopping this from being any different from the next listing on Google for the same topic?

AI is undoubtedly on the rise and so are questions about whether AI can replace humans in their job roles. From our little experiment its clear to us AI is an incredibly strong tool but has its limits when it comes to making something unique and personal to a brand.

What are our thoughts about the future of AI, and this specific experience?

Was it fast and easy to use? Yes!

Did we like the process of using it? Once we got through the servers, yes!

Would we recommend it to fellow marketeers? Yes, but only for idea generation or factual information gneration.

If everyone starts using this tool to create content, the internet will become a very generic sea of bland advice and SEO box ticking content.

This tool is a time-saving gold mine for marketers in a rush. It certainly adds value in the content generated, but we like to think the real value of pieces written by humans lies in the unique way we each write. We tell stories, illustrate our points, make links between seemingly unrelated incidents and make our writing personal, witty and unique. The little jokes, emphasis on certain phrases, even emojis, are what makes content feel relatable to an audience.

We’re sure sites like ChatGPT will become more intelligent and adapt to the demand quickly. And who knows, perhaps they will be able to develop a more human-like voice for AI generated content, but we also kind of hope they don’t. It’s nice to know there was a human at the other end of the keyboard when you’re consuming content online.

For a look at the other side of AI, my colleague Christine's blog post will be coming soon!

This blog was definitely written by a person!
